Did you actually learn anything in your last online course?

Happy Monday to you & welcome to a new week of possibilities!

As we embrace the start of another week, remember any time life’s challenges attempt to damper your spirits - you are an Everyday Knowledge Warrior, ready to conquer the week - and digital defeat! - with strategy, determination, and a systematic approach.

Unpacking the Impact: Did Your Last Online Course Deliver Real Learning?

Recently, I chatted with several talented creators, many of whom have online courses as part of their product offerings. I learned something surprising to me in our conversation. Despite the abundance of expertise in the group, many were not familiar with instructional design, specifically what it is and why it matters.

As someone with over 20 years of experience teaching and designing courses and a PhD in Instructional Design, this gap struck me profoundly. Without a foundation in instructional design, it's no wonder that the majority of creator-designed courses I've completed (and I've completed a lot!) have lacked clear learning objectives and left me frequently wondering: Did I actually learn anything in this course?

Online courses without effective instructional design minimally engage students, which leads to questionable measurable student "transformations", which results in few compelling testimonials to use to promote the course in the future.

Are you starting to see how this is a problem?

Since that conversation, I've been pondering this issue, specifically wondering:

How can talented creators, with online courses or those considering online courses, quickly bridge this knowledge gap? How can they enhance their courses to ensure they lead to genuine student transformations and robust testimonials?

That's why I've decided to launch "Transform Your Online Course in 30 Days with Essential Instructional Design Principles." Starting June 1st, I will share daily insights on Twitter and LinkedIn rooted in my over two decades of personal experiences teaching students and teaching teachers how to design effective courses. These posts will be packed with actionable tips and proven strategies to enhance your teaching and course outcomes.

Here’s a sneak peek at what each week will cover:
